Location
Photo sessions usually last about an hour. Most outdoor locations work well, but we prefer to shoot a parks or scenic places. A favorite is the Hodge Park located off of 152 and Shoal Creek Parkway in Liberty, Missouri. Photo shoots done outside of the Liberty, Missouri area will have an additional transportation fee.
Dress
Your choice of outfit(s) is up to you, but simple clothing usually works best in solids and neutral colors. This allows for the photos to be timeless and focus on the subject, not his/her clothing. Groups look the best dressed in all the same color. All in white shirts or all in black shirts tends to be the best. It's not necessary for entire family to be in the same style of shirts and pants, for example, but a similar color works best.
Touch-ups
Not every photo is perfect. A skin blemish, a undergarment strap showing, a 3-year-old with his tongue sticking out, can ruin a good photo.
> See how touch-ups can make a difference in your photos.
Children
Children are the most fun to photography with their chubby cheeks, sly grins and their spontinaiety. It's that same unpredictableness, though, that makes them sometimes the most difficult to cooperate. To ensure that we have the best photography session possible:
1. Please feed your child(ren) prior to the shoot, as full tummies make the best subjects!
2. Dusk is the best time to shoot photography. Lighting is very important, and at dusk, the sky is still lit, but the sun doesn't cause harsh shadows. That being said, make sure your child has had proper rest and napped if needed.
I usually bring marshmallows as incentives for toddlers and preschoolers to cooperate with me. I chose white mini marshmallows because they don't usually leave crumbs and food on faces. I also reward each of my subjects (including parents) with a treat at the end.
I also use squeaky toys, puppets, a duster mop, cheerleader pom pons and other fun things to get your child's attention and smiles.
